History
At the third session of the Presidium of ASNOM, held from September 2 to 5, 1944, in the Prohor Pčinjski monastery, the decision was made to establish a daily newspaper. Immediately after, the Agitation-Propaganda Department (AGITPROP) at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Macedonia and the Main Staff were tasked with forming a special commission that would prepare and publish this daily newspaper.
“Nova Makedonija” is the first Macedonian daily newspaper, founded by a decision of the Presidium of ASNOM. The first issue was published on October 29, 1944 in the village of Gorno Vranovci, where today the first printing house, converted into a museum, is located. Vasil Ivanovski was appointed as its first editor-in-chief. The first issue, which had a total of 8 pages, came out in a small circulation and was distributed to brigades, headquarters and many associations and represented the first official document printed in the codified Macedonian language.
After the turbulent transition years, the renewed “Nova Makedonija” began to be published on April 30, 2008.
